Cheyenne, Wyoming

Well, we left Jackson Hole and set out towards Colorado. We stopped for lunch in Dubois, an awesome, western style town. There weren't any campgrounds suitable (inexpensive enough) for us, so we continued southeast. Lots of rolling hills, dry, brown grasslands and wild sagebush along the way. Very little cell phone service, but if you like the terrain of the wild west then this is the place for you. We even drove through an area called the Badland Hills. An area that resembled the badlands of South Dakota. Looked pretty much the same, but the hills/mountains are not as big and expanse.

Finally, after a 6 hour drive for the second day, we arrive at Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne. Beautiful base, very small and quiet except when a helicopter flies over. There is a train near the campground too that likes to come through in the evenings, but thankfully it's horn doesn't seem to be too loud at night. Good place to have inexpensive laundry and everything is convenient.
(If you go to Glacier, don't expect a grocery store nearby. At least not more than a small market. The lady who runs the Sears Motel where we stayed, along with her friends, stock up on 4 months worth of food!)

Any green grass on the base is here because it's been planted. It does not grow naturally here, it is too dry. It's here, along with the trees, because they've been planted and watered.
This base was opened in 1867 to protect the rail road workers from the Native Americans! Wow! They have remodeled the buildings and kept everything in tip top shape! Nice!

The last photo has a pronghorn antelope standing, quite comfortably, in a field in front of the homes. They are all over this base! We don't even point them out anymore!!

We were told this week that 2 days after we left here an inch of snow fell at this campground.
Today, 9/17/10, snow is falling in East Glacier! Looks like we just missed it!

I would have never thought cattails grew up north and in the northwest. I was wrong! Obviously they don't mind the cold.

East Glacier, MT

It is time to move on though. Now we head back to Wyoming.

Glacier, MT

This is another entrance to Glacier National Park called, Many Glacier. This is considered the American Alps. What a beautiful sight! The wind was blowing wildly and that made it feel colder. It was a beautiful, sunny day though. This lodge sat right on a pristine lake with an enormous background of mountains set behind it. The architect tried to copy the Swiss design. I'd say he did a great job! Makes us want to go to Switzerland even more!
