We traveled from Mammoth Cave to Camp Carlson in northern Kentucky. We stayed here 3 nights. Here are our photos of this military campground. It was a nice campground.
One of the children's favorite spots was a huge field made available for throwing frisbees, a football, baseballs and a badmitton net! This area also had a playground. It was perfect for the children. We also went on the military base, Fort Knox. Below is a photo of the gold vault located on base. However, it was interesting to us that the vault is right off of the main highway and in full view of the highway. Also on base we visited General Patton's Museum. A VERY interesting, large and FREE museum! The museum also had this portion of the Berlin Wall. It was fascinating to be able to touch this once dividing line between Germany's East and West.
While exploring the campground one day, Hunter and Christian found a cave with a creek flowing out of it. So we all rode back on our bikes to see this cave and the tall rock mountain that towered behind it. The cave was closed off due to the endangered Gray Bats the park wants to protect. The water was cold, prrobably around 45 degrees, and crystal clear.
